The Base – A British Army Scandal
United KingdomBroadcasters
ITV Exposure
This
powerful documentary investigates how, for over twelve years, the prime suspect
in the violent murder of a young mother has been able to walk free in Britain -
part of an alleged cover-up that goes to the top of the UK military.
Centred around BATUK - home of the British Army in Kenya and one of the UK’s
biggest overseas bases - the film hears from British soldiers who are now
speaking out, revealing that many colleagues and officers in their regiment
know the name of the man who allegedly attacked 21-year-old Agnes
Wanjiru, stabbing her before dumping her body in a hotel septic
tank, something he denies. And it examines how, after decades
of concerns surrounding the base, some soldiers there continue to abuse
local women today, including allegations of rape, and sexual assault on
underage girls.
